This book is  about teens who have to fight for their lives and for their freedom. They don’t want to have to fight for their freedom; they are forced to fight. The main people in the book are Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. These two people are from District 12 who must fight against every other district just so they can be safe.

There are twelve different districts at the moment. There were thirteen districts but District 13 was destroyed due to a rebellion. To make sure that there would be no more rebellion with another district, the capital decided to put together a battle to the death every year to show who runs the country. Every district holds a drawing with each and every name of each boy and girl ages 12 – 18  in the district. When Katniss’ sister was picked for the games, Katniss volunteered in for her, so Prim (her sister) would not have to go through anything painful. Along with Katniss comes Peeta, the baker’s son who grew up with Katniss. Peeta has a secret crush on Katniss, but now he is forced with the possibility that he might have to kill her.

Katniss and Peeta have to fight for themselves and be able to survive against dangerous  natural elements and other contestants. Yet even with the gamemakers and other contestants, all that’s on their mind is to kill or be killed: this is the only choice. There is no other way to go and no time to fear anyone.

This book really was just meant for teenagers, yet it caught even adult’s interest. Every person reading it just wanted more and more, knowing that it was going to be a great book and very interesting, knowing also that there is twists and adventures that even the reader themselves didn’t know. For example Peeta’s secret crush on Katniss is not revealed until right before the Hunger Games begin. Many readers didn’t want to put the book down because they were very into reading it. The author, Suzanne Collins, did a good job of creating suspense so that many people did not want to put the book down as they couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next.

I would recommend reading this book, I did and I loved it! This book has many ingredients that keep a reader’s attention: violence, sympathy for main characters, some awesome villains, and a bit of romance. This book will for sure catch anyone’s interest and that’s a for sure thing. You’ll want to keep reading it and will not want to stop! Mostly if you like action, love, and passion reading then for sure you’ll like this book.
