Why should the events in the Ukraine matter to you?
Is there a World War III on the edge of being started? The war in Ukraine and Russia is affecting nations worldwide. Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk of Ukraine accused Moscow of acting like a gangster by aiming to occupy Ukraine militarily and politically. He also claims that Russia is trying to start a third world war by occupying Ukraine militarily and politically. Prime Minister Yatseniuk said, “The world has not yet forgotten World War Two, but Russia already wants to start World War Three,” he told his interim cabinet in a broadcast live. “Attempts at military conflict in Ukraine will lead to a military conflict in Europe.” He also said, “It is clear that Russia’s goal is to wreck the election in Ukraine, remove the pro-western and pro-Ukrainian government, and occupy Ukraine politically as well as militarily”. Ukraine and Russia both sent troops to the border to prepare for any invasion.
Why is Russia invading Ukraine?
1) South Ukraine holds huge Iron Ore Deposits and other vital minerals.
2) Vital Soviet-era military industry, ship-building, and land arms factories necessary for Russian army and navy forces are located in the eastern part of Ukraine, directly across the border from Russia.
3) Russia believes it must stop the expansion of NATO before it grabs South Ukraine’s weapons industry. If NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) controlled Ukraine’s weapons’ exports to Russia, then Russia’s ability to re-arm would be paralyzed.
What is Ukraine doing to defend themselves ?
Ukraine sent 10,000 troops to the border to prepare for an invasion.
Also, Ukraine’s trying to find more allies to help protect them from a future invasion. NATO is trying to assure Ukraine that they will be in the fight.
The commander of NATO is insisting that the West do more to protect Ukraine from a possible Russian invasion. But the Obama administration has other plans.
Nobody wants Ukraine. Even Russia just wants slivers
Says Jonathan Adelman, an expert on Soviet affairs, “While the United States, European Union and Russia battle over whether Ukraine will follow Crimea back into the Russian camp, there is a little secret that none of them dare utter in public: despite all the posturing and hand wringing over Ukraine, none of them wants to be left holding the bag at the end of the day.”
Why does this matter to the United States?
This crisis will affect not only the fate of Ukraine, but that of Russia, the European Union and the United States. If Russia were able to take over Ukraine it would make our prices go up in wheat, oil gas, and other merchandise. Ukraine its one of the biggest wheat suppliers of Europe. Also, Ukraine is a major supplier of oil, not only to Europe to the United States. A war is the last thing the United States needs right now. The United States is already in debt and owes money, plus we need to deal with removing troops from out of the Middle East, like Afghanistan, and then focus on our country and government.
